Don't waste life's sweet moments
Friday, March 19, 2010 at 12:02PM I was inspired today by a post a friend made. It rings true for some many of us when someone or something looks to be standing in our way. Our fear of anything painful: broken heart, betrayal, or rejection, and failure, stops us from going after what we want most - life's sweet moments.
From Louise Erdrich's book, The Painted Drum
Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won't either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself that you tasted as many as you could.
Remember that its connected. Life's sweeter moments are those that we made happen in spite of the fear, pain, rejection and perceived failures. So we have celebration, triumph, joy.
How about them apples?
